Breast Augmentation,Breast Implants,Breast Enlargement Sydney, Port Macquarie & Coffs Harbour

-->
Breast Augmentation, or Mammaplasty, uses silicone implants to increase the size or improve the shape of the breasts.

A very personal decision:

Many women consider having breast augmentation surgery. Some have breasts that did not fully develop or developed unevenly.

Some have always felt their breasts were too small, and some have experienced changes in their breast size and shape after pregnancy or weight change or simply as they have grown older.
Whatever your reasons for considering breast augmentation, it is important to remember that the decision is yours alone. You should never consider having the surgery to please someone else. You should also remember that, like all aesthetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation can only change your figure, not your life.

About the procedure:

Breast augmentation is a well established procedure that has been performed on more than three million women worldwide over the last three decades. The majority of women who have had the procedure report that they are very pleased with the result.

Through the use of implants, this surgery can increase the size of your breasts and correct uneven breasts. It may also be used to correct drooping breasts but may require an additional uplift procedure. To learn more, please see the Uplift (Mastopexy) section of the web site.
The implants used in breast augmentation surgery are filled with silicone gel. Silicone Gel Implants have benefits and drawbacks.

Briefly stated, these considerations are; Silicone gel-filled implants provide a more natural feel to the breast and are less likely to cause rippling. At present, most surgeons use cohesive gel silicone implants, which do not leak if the shell is damaged. Silicone implants however need a slightly longer access incision to place them.

Incisions & the Surgery:

The majority of patients opt for an Infra mammary (through breast crease) incision, however, some patients request the incision to be placed in the axillary crease (armpit) and periareolar (around the Nipple). Very rarely some augmentations are performed via the "belly button" (Transumbilical).

The breast implants are placed either infront of the pectoralis muscle (Subglandular) or behind this muscle (Submuscular/Subpectoral). This decision is made at the time of your consultation with the Surgeon.

Typically the reasons for placement of the Breast Implant is based on the amount of native breast tissue, shape and volume of the breast and the quality of the skin.

The importance of where the incision is placed is with regards to ease of access to the different tissue planes when augmenting the breast.

The Inframammary incision allows the best access to these various planes when placing the breast implant. The decision though should be throughly discussed with the Surgeon at the time of your consultation, and the advantages and disadvantages explored.

Complications:

These include the following:
Bleeding/Haematomas/Seromas
Infections
Capsular Contracture
Scarring
Double Bubble & Double fold
Implant Show
Changes in Nipple Sensation & Breast Feeding
Wound breakdown
Pain
Swelling
DVT's
Overall complication rates tend to limited and are easily managed. Occassionally patients may need to return to theatre to have further surgery to resolve any complication.
